I was just starting to go to motor racing in the 50s, but if I'm honest, I found the Mercs dominance in '55 tedious, especially as most of the other cars (apart from the wonderful Lancia Ferrari)seemed rather bland to me.

Now I fully appreciate that if you can do it, you can spend your time modelling whatever era you want, and the inevitable result of spreading the very limited talent so widely is that projects in which I might be interested (such as Spa!) are delayed.Īnd taste fascinates me because whilst I can understand someone wanting to do the late 30s mod, I am mystified by the 1955 mod. Someone has also raised the issue of the track widths, and if you add this into the equation, we are so far from the reality of late 30s racing, that maybe a30s mod will inevitably be a disappointment to us who are meer 'consumers'. I can understand that car shapes can be developed if you are clever enough using frameworks and polygons etc, but epecially when considering the Mercs and Auto Unions of the late 30s, the dynamics of the cars are so radically different from those of GPL mid/late 60s, do you also have to develop news dynamics packages, or are the dynamics of existing GPL mods used? I can understand that they might be, as otherwise the task would be monumental.īut if this is the case, I ask myself what is the point of doing a 30s mod as it is questionable whether it is a 'simulation'.

With all this discussion about generating mods simulating racing in the late 30s and 1955, I remain unclear as to how these are achieved.
